– Kirt Conrad, SARTA CEO
The Problem:
Obsolete surveillance equipment made it difficult to protect employees and passengers
Safety has always been a priority for CEO Kirt Conrad and the management team at the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority. But obsolete surveillance equipment that limited the agency’s ability to monitor activity at its four remote transit centers and sprawling headquarters complex was making it increasingly difficult to protect employees and passengers. Existing security cameras produced low-quality images, and the file management system was—in a word—unmanageable. Unless staff constantly monitored video streams from the remote facilities, incidents could go unnoticed and unreported for hours or even days.
The Solution:
Artificial intelligence and a proactive approach to public safety
Mr. Conrad and his team knew it was time to upgrade SARTA’s security and surveillance systems, and they knew whom to call: Staley Technologies, the region’s most trusted security and communications specialists.
After conducting a comprehensive audit of SARTA’s existing capabilities and working closely with Mr. Conrad and his team to assess future needs, Staley’s skilled and experienced security professionals designed and installed a state-of-the-art surveillance system at SARTA’s Cornerstone, Belden Village, Alliance, and Massillon transit centers as well as the agency’s headquarters complex in Canton.
The new system features equipment and cutting-edge artificial intelligence and video analytic technology from Avigilon, a Motorola Solutions company. The system enables security personnel to quickly and effectively detect, verify, and act on critical events. They can even identify and deal with potential problems before they escalate. Avigilon’s innovative products and innovative approach to public safety make the company an industry leader and a perfect fit for SARTA, which has earned a national reputation for identifying and deploying groundbreaking transit technology.
Now fully operational and managed from a centralized control in SARTA’s Gateway Boulevard HQ facility, the Avigilon system provides:
- Easy access to high-quality video from all cameras
- Image capture and analysis
- Facial recognition
- Unusual activity detection
- License plate recognition
- Self-learning video analytics
In addition to those functions, the system calls attention to loud noises or suspicious behavior that might otherwise go unnoticed, so operators can quickly filter large amounts of recorded video to determine whether situations warrant additional action. It all adds up to a new, proactive approach to security that will increase operational safety and protect employees, riders, and the community.
Staley Technologies is proud of our partnership with SARTA, and we are confident the agency’s investment in Avigilon’s AI-powered technology will pay significant dividends for years to come.
